HIPAA has a reputation as an operational impediment to the ease of exchange of patient health information across providers and systems. But, it wasn’t intended to be; when passed in 1996, interoperability of medical records was one of the primary stated objectives of the legislation.
In 2020, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (“DHHS”) finalized long-anticipated Rules that impose requirements on hospitals, payers, and EHR vendors to promote interoperability across platforms and systems and better guarantee the ease with which patients can access and direct the use and disclosure of their protected health information.
In this webinar, compliance professional Tina Simpson, JD, MSPH walks through the Interoperability and Patient Access Final Rules as promulgated by DHHS, detailing the action steps that stakeholders should take now to both comply with the regulatory timeline and maximize the opportunities presented by this overhaul of the regulatory framework.
